Summary
Oil painting on canvas, James Cranfield, 2nd Earl of Middlesex, MP (1621-1651) attributed to John Weesop (fl.1641 - London 1649). 1641-1651. Three-quarter-length portrait of a young man, turned slightly to the left, gazing at the spectator, his right hand on his hip his left hand on the hilt of his sword, he is in a long wig, and wearing a buff-coloured doublet with slashed sleeves under a breastplate. He has a gold and red embroidered sash hung from his right shoulder. A distant landscape background with stormy sky. Inscribed: James Cranfield Earl of Middlesex.
