Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Portrait of a Young Man, after Sir Peter Lely, c. 1665. A half-length portrait of a young man, turned to the left, gazing at the specator, with light red natural shoulder-length hair, wearing a white chemise, brown coat and brown cloak draped over the proper left shoulder. The sitter has a supernumerary index finger on the proper right hand. After a 'Portrait of a Young Man' by Sir Peter Lely at Grimsthorpe Castle. Previously catalogued as a portrait of the Hon. Thomas Carey (1616-49) by George Jamesone (Aberdeen c.1588 – Edinburgh c.1644) after Lely.
