Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Mary Sackville, Countess of Orrery, later Viscountess Shannon (d.1714) by Sir Godfrey Kneller (Lübeck 1646/9 - London 1723). A three-quarter-length portrait, facing, head slightly inclined to the left, seated, gazing at the spectator, holding a small basket of flowers in her right hand on her lap. She has dark brown hair, a tress falling on her left shoulder and is wearing a red dress fastened with jewels down the front and on the sleeves, over a white chemise with white sleeves. She is seated in a landscape with trees to the right, and a distant horizon on the left.
