Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Saint Peter delivered from Prison, Italian School,17th century. Peter, full-length, left profile, seated, turned to the left, wearing a brown robe revealing his right shoulder and left leg,his manacles have broken off his leg and lie on the floor and the manacles on his wrists are in the process of breaking, a winged angel looks over his right shoulder and gestures to the left. According to the biblical Book of Acts, Peter was imprisoned by Herod Agrippa but the night before his trial while the guards slept around him he was visited by an angel who woke him saying, "Get up quickly". And the chains fell off his hands.
