Summary
Plaster cast showing a procession of three dancing maenads being led by a priest of the god Bacchus, who is holding a thyrsus (pinecone staff) in the crook of his arm. The image has a simple, wide, raised frame. A stiff design, without the detail you would expect from an antique relief sculpture, the cast is likely to have been designed and made in the late eighteenth or early nineteenth century.
Provenance
Possibly acquired by Charles, 1st Earl of Whitworth (1752-1825)
