Summary
Kneeling putto facing left, holding a swag of autumnal fruit (grapes, plums & apples). In low relief in the background on the right are a pair of scales. The putto is a representation of autumn, and the scales are the zodiac symbol for Libra (September-October). This roundel forms part of a group of four reliefs depicting the seasons (see NT. 128692, 128700, 128704) originally designed c.1770-1790 for Eleanor Coade (1733-1821) to be reproduced in Coade stone, possibly by John Bacon (1740-1799). The Knole roundels all have an additional decorative foliate border around the top. This plaster cast is likely to have been made in the late eighteenth or early nineteenth century.
