Summary
Cast from the Coade stone roundel representing Spring. It shows a putto with a basket of spring flowers and the ram of zodiac sign of Aries (March -April) above. In his right hand he holds a bouquet of spring flowers.
Full description
This roundel forms part of a group of four reliefs depicting the seasons (see NT. 128692, 128700, 128704) originally designed c.1770-1790 for Eleanor Coade (1733-1821) to be reproduced in Coade stone, possibly by John Bacon (1740-1799). A example of a Coade stone Spring roundel can be seen at Burton Constable Hall in Yorkshire. The Knole roundels all have an additional decorative foliate border around the top. This plaster cast is likely to have been made in the late eighteenth or early nineteenth century.

Probably acquired by Charles, 1st Earl Whitworth (1752-1825)
