Caption
The sitter was the daughter of Sir Thomas Cotton, 2nd Bt. and Margaret Howard, she married Sir Philip Wodehouse, 3rd Bt. (1608 – 1681) in 1634. She bore him three sons and three daughters; their daughter Blanche (c.1642 – 1697), married Sir Jacob Astley, 1st Bt. in 1661. Hayls was a lesser competitor of Sir Peter Lely.
