Oil painting on canvas, Admiral Sir George Anson, Baron Anson of Soberton (1697-1762), William Hoare of Bath, RA (Eye 1707 – Bath 1792) (traditionally Thomas Hudson (Devonshire 1701 – Twickenham 1779)), 1747. A three-quarter-length portrait, standing, turned slightly to the right, gazing at the spectator, wearing Peer's robes, lace at neck and cuffs, right hand on hip, left resting on a corner of masonary.
Provenance
Transferred to the National Trust with Shugborough’s park and contents of the state rooms, in part-payment of death-duties to the Treasury, following the death of Thomas, 4th Earl of Lichfield (1883 - 1960)
