Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Lord Anson's Hunt by William Webb (Tamworth 1780- Melton Mowbray 1856), circa 1827-1830. Hounds and hunt servants standing on Cannock Chase, Lord Anson's grey horse is waiting for him. The pack,established by Lord Anson, was in existence by 1820, in which year and until 1829 annual hound lists were kept. It continued to be known as Lord Anson's Hunt until 1830, when on his being appointed Master of the Royal Buckhounds, it became, as it has since remained, the Atherstone Hunt. Provenance
Transferred to the National Trust with Shugborough’s park and contents of the state rooms, in part-payment of death-duties to the Treasury, following the death of Thomas, 4th Earl of Lichfield (1883 - 1960)
