Summary

One of a set of three Imari baluster vases, domed cover surmounted by chilin on rockwork, panel painted with phoenix on dark brown grounds reserved with foliage within blue foliage pattern borders, chilin on gold ground, red panels to neck. Original red and gilt stands.

Provenance

Similar set of 3 vases at Kelmarsh Hall, Northas, on wooden bases with lettering 'Taken by Lord Anson in the Manilla galleon'.
