Summary
Oil painting on panel (three boards), An Unknown Woman supposedly aged 60 (once said to be of the Gilly family, possibly Helen Hyde (d.1638), the third wife of Sir James Altham (d.1617), British (English) School, 1617. In later script: top left: ANO DOMINI 1617, top right: ÆTATIS SVÆ. 60. A half-length portrait facing, wearing a high ruff, a dress with elaborate lace cuffs and holding a glove with lace cuff in her left hand, a ring on the third finger of her left hand.

first recorded in 1731; bequeathed by (Henry John) Ralph Bankes (1902 – 1981) to the National Trust, together with the estates of Corfe Castle and Kingston Lacy and its entire contents, 1981
