Summary

Ornamental plasterwork ceiling comprising moulding and an oil painting on panel (with a central octagon), Illusionistic Trelliswork Cupola with Disporting Putti attributed to Giovanni da Udine (Udine 1487 – Rome 1564). A trompe-l'oeil ceiling painting representing an allegory of autumn. A putto is placed in each of the four corners. Two other putti are visible in the centre surrounded by leaves and grapes.

Provenance

Oil painting Palazzo Grimani by S. Maria Formosa, Venice; bought by William Bankes in 1849; By descent until bequeathed by (Henry John) Ralph Bankes (1902 – 1981) to the National Trust, together with the estates of Corfe Castle and Kingston Lacy and its entire contents in 1981
