Summary
William and Mary, walnut and seaweed marquetry, Eight-day English striking longcase clock signed Francis Raynsford. The face with silvered chapter ring, signed (at V and VI). Two-train, five-pillar movement, with anchor escapement and inside locking plate striking. With brass dial with cherub's head spandrels. The silvered brass chapter ring with Roman numerals and small Arabic five minute figures. The seconds dial with ringed centre. Ringed calender aperture and ringed winding holes in matted dial centre. Blued steel hands. Seaweed marquetry case with oak carcass. Flat top hood with 'barley twist' columns and glazed sides. Convex trunk moulding. Rectangular trunk door with three seaweed marquetry panels and pendulum lenticle with pressed brass surround. Square plinth with marquetry panel and shaped base with feet. Index Card: Note: The trunk door lock and the base to the plinth are later replacements. The hood would originally have been rising instead of sliding. There is no Francis Raynesford recorded.
