Summary

Portrait miniature, watercolour on ivory, Georgina Nugent, Mrs George Bankes (1799-1875), and her three elder children, Georgina Charlotte Frances Bankes, Later Mrs John Floyer, Maria Bankes and Edmund George Bankes (1826-1860) by Sir William Charles Ross, RA (London 1794 – London 1860). 1830. Rectangular. Mrs Bankes: three-quarter length, standing behind a balustrade, blue eyes, blonde hair with ringlets, wearing a high-waisted, low -cut black dress and blue shawl, with an emerald brooch with three pendant pearls at her breast and a belt with a jewelled buckle, holds in the crook of her left arm a child with short blonde hair, rosy cheeks, wearing a white dress with a blue sash, its right arm around the neck of its mother. Mrs Bankes right arm is around the neck of her daughter with her hand resting on her breast. The daughter with blonde curly hair, centre parting, holds her mothers hand in her right hand, her left hand rests on the balustrade, she wears a white dress with a red sash. The third child, three-quarter length, stands in front of the balustrade, turned to her mother but with her face looking over her shoulder to the spectator, she holds a basket of flowers in her left hand and places a flower in her blonde hair with her right hand. A green parrot climbs down the side of its cage on the left.
