Ronald Greville married Margaret Anderson in 1891. He was a 26-year old Lieutenant in the 1st Life Guards with an aristocratic pedigree; she was the illegitimate daughter of a brewing millionaire. The marriage was one of money and connections. However the couple, known as Maggie and Ronnie, had a happy marriage. Ronald died in 1908 after catching pneumonia following an operation for throat cancer. Mrs Greville kept Ronnie’s wedding ring and even after attaining the title of Dame of the British Empire preferred to be known as Mrs Ronnie.

Mr Bole, who worked for Ronald Greville before he married Margaret Anderson, and remained in Margaret's employment until her death in 1942, declared that it was worn by The Hon. Ronald Greville until his death in 1908.
