Summary
A William III seaweed marquetry longcase clock. The clock has a two-train movement inscribed 'Wm Sellars London' on the silvered chapter ring, with cherub and clown spandrels and calendar aperture. The domed hood has finials and threequarter columns. The fronts have panels of marquetry made of walnut on fruitwood, on a walnut body. Marquetry is the application of pieces of wood veneer to form a decorative design. Seaweed marquetry patterns are composed of very fine elements resembling seaweed or endive leaves.
