Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Mountainous Lake Scene, by Edward Train (Gateshead 1801 – Newcastle 1866). A mountainous landscape with a lake, a sailing boat and three figures standing on a promontory to the right. The subject of this imposing landscape is thought to be a loch in the Scottish Highlands. Train was a Newcastle-based artist, best known for his paintings of Scottish scenery.
Provenance
Armstrong collection. Transferred by the Treasury to The National Trust in 1977 via the National Land Fund, aided by 3rd Baron Armstrong of Bamburgh and Cragside (1919 - 1987).
