Summary
Oil painting on canvas, An Unknown Man, called George Cruddas, British (English) School, 19th century. A half-length portrait of a gentleman, possibly one of Armstrong's business partners, seated in a red upholstered chair with a window behind him, turned slightly to the left, wearing a dark coat. A red drape is pulled back behind him to the left to reveal a distant landscape with a church tower and a cloudy sky.
Provenance
Armstrong collection. Transferred by the Treasury to The National Trust in 1977 via the National Land Fund, aided by 3rd Baron Armstrong of Bamburgh and Cragside (1919 - 1987).
