Summary
Woodblock print, ink and pigments on paper, Ōkawabashi no sekishō (Sunset glow at Ōkawa bridge) from the series Edo Hakkei no Uchi (Eight Views of Edo), after Toyohara Kunichika (1835–1900), 1868, signed centre right Kunichika hitsu (brush of Kunichika). Depicting the kabuki actor Sawamura Tosshō II (1838–86) in the role of Kinokuni no Kibun, holding an umbrella.
Provenance
Armstrong collection. Transferred by the Treasury to The National Trust in 1977 via the National Land Fund, aided by 3rd Baron Armstrong of Bamburgh and Cragside (1919 - 1987).
