Summary
Oil painting on canvas, 'Pacha', a Cab Horse belonging to Frederick, Viscount Castlereagh, later 4th Marquess of Londonderry (1805 - 72), trotting in a Landscape, by James Barenger (London 1780 – London 1831), signed lower, in black centre: J. Barenger and inscribed and dated on the back: PACHA / Cab Horse / F. Visct Castlereagh / 1829. A portrait of a horse, trotting in a landscape, facing right. This painting hung for a period in the Drawing Room at Mount Stewart, noted in Lord Powerscourt's "History of the Stags' Heads, Pictures etc at Mount Stewart, Newtownards", 1898: In the drawing-room are also two portraits of his horses, 'Selim' and 'Pacha' at the time when he was a young dandy in London and went under the name of "Young Rapid", Lord Westmoreland the Ambassador, being "Old Rapid".(Lord Powerscourt was the step-son of Frederick, 3rd Marquess of Londonderry.)
