Summary
Oil painting on canvas, A Bay Racehorse on a Heath, with Jockey up, by James Lynwood Palmer (Market Rasen 1868–Heston 1941), signed and dated Lynwood Palmer / 1922. A portrait of a bay racehorse in a landscape, standing in profile to the left. A jockey dressed in white breeches with purple and brown racing livery is seated on the horse, looking out towards the viewer. The horse is labelled on the frame as Polemarch.
Provenance
Presumably commissioned by the 7th Marquess of Londonderry (1878-1949), and thence by descent to his youngest daughter, Lady Mairi Bury (1921-2009); by whom given to the National Trust in 1976
