Full description
Miss F. Blackstaffe was an assistant in the Faience department at Doulton & Co's Lambeth Art Studio, during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The jardinere (plant holder) is Doulton's Chiné ware, in which lace was pressed into the wet clay surface to create an overall pattern, with details often picked out with coloured glazes and gilt This method was patented by Henry Doulton and John Slater, who was manager of Doulton's factory in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent.
