Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Richard Boyle, 3rd Earl of Burlington (1695 – 1753), British (English) School, circa 1715-1720. A bust portrait (probably reduced form a larger portrait) of a young man, turned to the right, gazing at the spectator, wearing a dark brown shoulder-length wig, and wearing ermine cape and a lace cravat, a crimson velvet cloak rests on his right arm. The Boyle coat-of-arms, surmounted by a coronet can be seen in the top left-hand corner of the portrait. Inscribed top right 'Richard Earl of Burlington'. He was an architect whose sister married Sir Henry Bedingfeld, 3rd Baronet. He was in Italy in 1714-15 and again in 1719. Catalogue number 111 l.r.
