Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Edmund Bedingfeld, Canon of Lierre in Brabant (1615-1680), Flemish School, mid-17th century. Half-length portrait of a man in black with white collar and cuffs, a breviary in his right hand with his fingers inserted between the leaves, his left hand rests on a ledge at the front; at the left, a crucifix and reliquary. Dark background. Inscribed, lower right: Edmund 4th son of Sir Henry Bedingfeld and brother to Sir Hen.. and Col Shunias Bidi. He was a canon at Liere in Brobant a Royal Foundation subject only to the immediate nominal of the nuns of Lain! He died there in the ... opinion of ...'. White catalogue number 72 lower right.
