Summary
Oil painting on panel, Part of Diptych (right): Saint Anne holding the Virgin as a Girl and the Christ Child and an Apple (recto); Five Female Donor Figures, dressed in Black with White Cuffs praying (verso), Flemish School, circa 1620. Iconography represents the Holy Family and the atonement of sin. Inscription reads 'S. Anna'. Possible female connection between reverse side is that Eve was the instigator of the Fall and Mary the agent of salvation. Possibly painted in 19th century in style of 17th century.

Provenance
Originally at Aberconwy House, Conway which had been purchased and given to the National Trust by Alexander Campbell-Blair in 1934. On loan for some years to the National Museum of Wales, Cardiff before being transferred for display at East Riddlesden Hall, West Yorkshire in c.1949. Transferred to Beningbrough Hall in 1984.
