Summary
Pastel on paper of Susannah West Wilson by Ellis William Roberts (Burslem 1860 – Brighton 1930), 1890. A full-length portrait of a lady dressed in white with a blue sash and a hat in a garden setting. Susannah was daughter of Arthur Wilson (1836-1909) of Tranby Croft, Anlaby nr Hull. Arthur Wilson was the youngest brother of Charles Wilson (Baron Nunburnholme from 1906) and Susannah was therefore cousin to Enid, Countess of Chesterfield, owner of Beningbrough Hall. Susannah's first husband was John Graham Menzies (1861-1911). In 1912 she remarried Lieutenant-Colonel Sir George Holford (1860-1926) and became Lady Holford.
Provenance
Bequeathed by Major-General Sir Stewart Graham Menzies (1890-1968), son of Susannah Wilson from her first marriage.
