This portrait, painted in oil on panel, is believed to depict Edward Herbert, 1st Baron Herbert of Chirbury.The finely embroidered doublet and ruff identifies the sitter as distinguished gentlemen, and is stylistically in keeping with the fashions of the early seventeenth century.

Provenance
Accepted by HM Treasury on 21st March, 1963 in lieu of tax and conveyed to National Trust ownership on 29th November 1963.
