Summary
Oil painting on canvas, An Unknown Boy, possibly Francis Herbert of Oakley Park, Ludlow (1667-1719), English School, circa 1675 - 80. A painted oval portrait which has been extensively altered at some time, half length wearing a red and white costume. Francis Herbert was the father of the 1st Earl of Powis of the 2nd creation.
Provenance
Accepted by HM Treasury on 21st March, 1963 in lieu of tax and conveyed to National Trust ownership on 29th November 1963. Recorded at Powis Castle in Montgomery Collections Vol VI P.148 in 1873, recorded as 'Francis Herbert Esq. 29 by 24. Head, Slashed sleeves'.
