Summary
A sword, an 'ayda katti', with broad steel blade and stepped ferrule. The T-shaped wooden hilt covered with red lacquer and with applied silver gilt decoration of crescents and flower heads; the grip bound with silver gilt strips and with a red tassel at the pommel. Southern India (Coorg), 18th or early 19th century.
Provenance
Accepted by HM Treasury on 21st March, 1963 in lieu of tax and conveyed to National Trust ownership on 29th November 1963.
