Summary
Oil painting on canvas, in carved giltwood frame. Caroline Paget, Lady Bayly (d.1766) by Enoch Seeman the younger (Gdańsk c.1694 – London 1744), inscribed with later Gothick inscription with name of sitter bottom right: Caroline Paget / Lady Bayly. A three-quarter length portrait of Caroline Paget, daughter and heir of Brig.-Gen. Thomas Paget and wife of Sir Nichlas Bayly, 2nd Bt, shown wearing a grey satin dress with jewelled clasps to the corset, her left arm extended, her right arm holding the folds of her dress. Married Sir Nicholas Bayly 2nd Bt ( 1709 - 1782), in 1737.
Provenance
Accepted by HM Government in lieu of inheritance tax and allocated to the National Trust for display at Plas Newydd, 2016.
