Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Possibly Dorothy [?Henrietta] Whitmore, Mrs Jonathan Langley (1667-1697), studio of Sir Godfrey Kneller (Lübeck 1646 - London 1723), circa 1690. A three-quarter-length portrait of a young woman, seated frontally, head inclined slightly to the right, gazing at spectator, wearing a dark blue décolleté dress, over a white shift whose full sleeves are held up above the elbow by a jewelled armband, a red drape is over her right arm, held in her right hand and lies across her lap, she leans with her right arm on a stone support, in front of a cupid-adorned urn containing an orange tree. She was the wife of Jonathan Langley of Broseley, Shropshire from 1687 and the daughter of Sir Thomas Whitmore and sister of Frances, Lady Myddelton.

Provenance
With some of the contents, in 1978, that were acquired along with Chirk Castle from Lt-Col Ririd Myddelton (1902–1988) by the National Land Fund and handed, on loan for 99 years, to the Secretary of State for Wales (In 1981 Chirk was transferred into the ownership of the National Trust). On loan to the Trust from Guy Charles Myddelton. Gifted to Guy C Myddelton from Captain David Myddelton in 2010. Purchased by the National Trust from Mr Guy Myddelton in 2023.
