Summary
Oil painting on panel, Sarah Harington, Lady Edmondes, aged 63 by Cornelius Johnson (London 1593 - Utrecht 1661), inscribed along the upper edge, in paint: Spes Supra and AETATIS SUAE 63. (Previously inventoried as Elizabeth Stanley, Countess of Huntingdon d.1633). An oval half-length portrait, wearing black with a white ruff. The sitter is shown wearing a jewel with the monogram of Frederick, King of Bohemia (the Winter King). Sarah's brother had been guardian of Frederick's wife, Elizabeth, when a girl. Another version which is monogrammed and dated C. J. fecit 1628 was at the Weiss Gallery, London in 2000.
