Summary
Oil painting on panel, An Unknown Lady, attributed to Cornelius Johnson (London 1593 - Utrecht 1661), inscribed in black, top right: Anno 1626/ Aetatis [ ]/ and on back of panel, in large black painted letters, half obliterated by the two vertical repairs: Tro...ry[?] l[y?] with a large flourish underneath. A head-and-shoulders portrait, to left, possibly mourning, in a black dress with slashed sleeves, a black veil over her head and white falling ruff, black sash over left shoulder, two strings of pearls over right; a black mourning locket? between her breasts; thin plait of hair dangling from her ear.

Given by Philip Yorke III (1905 – 1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973
