Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Wilbraham Tollemache, 6th Earl of Dysart (1739-1821) as a Boy, British (English) School, circa 1745/50. A full-length portrait of a young boy, standing, turned slightly to the right, gazing at the spectator, wearing a deep blue jacket and breeches and a white satin waistcoat with gold braiding, in his hands he holds a battledore (right hand) and shuttlecock (left hand), a dog is jumping up on the right. Provenance
In catalogue, around 1820; thence by descent until acquired in 1948 by HM Government when Sir Lyonel, 4th Bt (1854 – 1952) and Sir Cecil Tollemache, 5th Bt (1886 – 1969) presented Ham House to the National Trust, and entrusted to the care of the Victoria & Albert Museum, until 1990, when returned to the care of the National Trust, and to which ownership was transferred in 2002
