Caption
Cecil Brooke Boothby was the second son of Sir William Boothby, 9th Bt. and Fanny Jenkinson, only daughter of Colonel John Jenkinson, and niece of Charles, 1st Earl of Liverpool. The sitter died unmarried on 8 January, 1883.

Oil painting on canvas, Cecil Brooke Boothby (1813 – 1883) by Thomas Ellerby (fl.1821-1857). A half-length portrait as a young man, bearded, seated to left, head facing, wearing a dark coat and black stock. The sitter was born 18 November 1813. Second son of Sir William Boothby, 9th Bt and Fanny Jenkinson, only daughter of Colonel John Jenkinson, and niece of Charles, 1st Earl of Liverpool. He died unmarried, 8 January, 1883.
Provenance
In 1845 Handbook; thence by inheritance until, following the death of Edward William Spencer Cavendish, 10th Duke of Devonshire (1895 - 1950), Hardwick Hall and its contents were accepted by HM Treasury in part payment of death duties and transferred to the National Trust, in 1959
