Summary
One of eight stones painted by Ernö Goldfinger (1902-1987) and inspired by the painted granite stones from Maloja by Max Ernst (1891-1976) (see NT 112758). A smooth surfaced stone with a suggestion of a foot outline. Red paint across the upper sole and black paint in the location of the heel. This was possibly one of five stones lent to the Surrealism in England exhibition in 1986. It was entitled Achilles (112749.5).
Provenance
Owned by Ernö Goldfinger and Ursula Ruth Blackwell, also known as Mrs Ernö Goldfinger. Purchased by the National Trust in 1994.
