Dame Ellen Terry (1847-1928) (Sir Henry Irving called it 'Ellen in Heaven' )
Walford Graham Robertson (London 1867 – 1948)
Oil painting on canvas/pastel?, Dame Ellen Terry (1847-1928) by Walford Graham Robertson (London 1867 – 1948), circa 1887. A head-and-shoulders portrait, looking to the right, a lily at the right. Ellen Terry disliked this picture; Irving called it 'Ellen in Heaven' as related in "Time Was" (1931) by W.G. Robertson. Another version of this portrait in pastel was owned by the artist and another portrait of her standing in a landscape by the same artist is in the National Portrait Gallery.
Presented by Mrs Patrick Campbell (1865 - 1940); acquired with Smallhythe Place by National Trust in 1939
