Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Lord Randolph Henry Spencer-Churchill (1849-1895) Seated at his Desk by Edwin Arthur Ward (Basford 1859 - Dorset 1933), 1886. A half-length portrait of Winston Churchill's father, seated at his desk, in his own writing chair, and writing with a quill pen. The portrait shows Lord Randolph Churchill working on the budget during his short time as Chancellor of the Exchequer. He resigned from the government before Christmas in 1886 and was therefore never in a position to deliver the budget. No 52 at the New Gallery in 1891.
