Summary
Mount Fujiyama by Yasuda Yukihiko, watercolour on paper. Mounted on karibari board in a gilded frame of Japanese origin, glazed. Date unknown. Born in Tokyo, Yasuda Yukihiko (1884 - 1978) was a leading artist of the Nihon Bijutsuin [Japan Art Institute] revival period in the early 20th century. Yasuda is best known for depicting historic scenes in portraiture, although he was also a prolific landscape artist. He is considered a founder of the Nihonga style, an artistic movement which blended international influences with a celebration of traditional Japanese art and materials. Presented to Churchill by the Japanese ambassador in the drawing room at Chartwell, 11th August 1956.
