Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Hilly Landscape with Figures and Horses near a Bridge over a River by Willem de Heusch (Utrecht 1625 - Utrecht 1692), signed. A pendant to NT 108890 (KED/P/205). Willem de Heusch spent much of his career in Italy, having already been the pupil of Jan Both, whose italianising manner of painting landscapes he continued. Uncle and teacher of Jacob de Heusch, who was a more topographical artist, when he was not imitating Salvator Rosa.
Provenance
Owned by Nathaniel Curzon, Lord Scarsdale (1726-1804) by 1761;recorded in Principal Dressing Room in 1787; gifted to the National Trust in 1986 by Francis Curzon, 3rd Viscount Scarsdale (1924-2000).
