Summary
Oil painting on canvas, A Young Man in Armour wearing a Red Cap and holding a Staff, Italian School, mid 17th century. A half-length portrait of a young man, head and gaze to the left, dressed in armour wearing a red cap and holding a staff in his right hand. Plausibly attributed to Drost (who some now think may have painted The Polish Rider in the Frick Collection), this picture was acquired for 8 guineas in a sale of William Kent's in 1758, with an attribution to Guercino. This was not so widely amiss, since it is an imitation of Italian paintings by Pietro della Vecchia that are themselves imitations of Giorgione.
