Summary
Oil painting on canvas, The People of Rome paying Homage to Porsenna (?) by Francesco Zuccarelli, RA (Pitigliano 1702 - Florence 1788). An uncharacteristically serious subject for Zuccarelli, no doubt again at the behest of the lst Baron Scarsdale. Although already called Porsenna in the 1769 catalogue, it is difficult to locate this episode in the life of the Etruscan king, and it looks more like Coriolanus being pleaded with by his women-folk to raise the seige of Rome
