Summary
Oil painting on canvas, River Scene with Classical Buildings and Figures by Giovanni Francesco Grimaldi (Bologna 1606 – Rome 1680). A relative of the Carracci, Grimaldi's forte as a painter was landscape in the idiom of Annibale Carracci.
Provenance
Given to William Kent by the Marchese Arnaldi for concluding the picture deal with Sir Nathaniel Curzon in 1758; hung in the Ante-Chamber by 1778; and thence by descent until bought with part of the contents of Kedleston with the aid of the National Heritage Memorial Fund in 1987 when the house and park were given to the National Trust by Francis Curzon, 3rd Viscount Scarsdale (1924-2000)
