Summary
A Chinese chest made from ebony with mother-of-pearl inlay. The background pattern is of an hexagonal floral design; each side has a quatrefoil panel containing a rock, foliage and bird scene. The interior has red lacquer. 'A Chinese mother-of-pearl inlaid ebony box' (Christie's entry)
Provenance
Purchased in 1986 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund from Francis Curzon, 3rd Viscount Scarsdale (1924-2000). Gifted to the National Trust in 1987 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund.
