At Nostell Priory there are three sets of chairs which were definitely supplied by Thomas Chippendale, probably made in the dedicated chair ‘shop’ or ‘room’ which was part of his workshop in St Martin’s Lane, London.
It is generally agreed that a further three sets of chairs were almost certainly made there, too, because they conform either to designs published by Chippendale in The Gentleman & Cabinet-Maker's Director, or because they are very similar to other chairs, known to have been supplied by Chippendale.
