Dolaucothi Gold Mines

Mining began here in Roman times leaving many traces in the landscape. They are the only known Roman gold mines in Britain. Later in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries mining for copper continued, leaving an industrial legacy of surface and underground workings which can be visited today. Mining equipment was rescued by the Trust from the Halkyn mine and installed on this site.
