The stunning Italian baroque mansion of Beningbrough Hall is a showcase for the best of 18th century design with hints of Victoriana and the 20th century. By drawing on collections from all over the country Beningbrough presents a fascinating insight into the private and public world of Georgian society. Amongst the paintings are many portraits of the Royal family, actors, painters and politicians from the National Portrait Gallery collection, and from the Ashmolean Museum a select group of Oriental ceramics adorn the tiers above the chimneypieces in the dressing rooms and closets. The wonderful collection of furniture includes one of the finest Baroque state beds in England from the Chesterfield house, Holme Lacy in Herefordshire, outstanding walnut furniture and even a sunken bath.
