Summary
A very large olivewood and walnut lace box, English, circa 1690, the rectangular top inlaid with oyster veneers of olivewood, crossbanded and with banding to the corners forming hearts. The hearts to this box are more charming than the usual circular designs one sees to these - fairly common - survivors of the late 17th and early 18th centuries.
Provenance
Given by Henry Hornyold Strickland (1890 – 1975) with Sizergh Castle and its estates in 1950.
