Summary
Fan. Painted leaf on paper, classical scene with Bacchus and Ariadne. Very worn. Reverse replaced later date. Guards and sticks of carved tortoiseshell with gold leaf, guards decorated with mother-of-pearl background. French, 1770. Fan shown in portrait by Graves in the West Bedroom. C19 alterations, include the rivet.
Provenance
Part of the Bristol Collection. Acquired by the National Trust in 1956 under the auspices of the National Land Fund, later the National Heritage Memorial Fund.
